3-31-02 Easter

"It's Easter!" Hannah screamed.
I woke up, groaned, and rolled over. Jordan hopped out of bed, and pulled me along too.
"Where'd the Easter Bunny hide the eggs and your basket this time, I wonder?'' Jordan said to Hannah.
Jordan carried Hannah downstairs and set her down in the living room. She hobbled around the room, peeking around chairs, checking under tables. Finally she found it under the table in the corner of the room. She ran over to the couch and started tearing through the basket. Jack was behind her, catching all the stuff she threw and running behind the loveseat where no one could reach him. Hannah finished with her basket and started hunting for the eggs. She found one in the plant, 2 in the cabinet, 3 on the TV and stereo, and one big one that had 20 dollars in it on the lampshade.
"Oo! Money!" Hannah squealed. I gawked at the egg. I pulled Jordan aside.
"I didn't put that there." I said suspiciously.
Jordan grinned. "Well... I..."
"Oh you softie!" I said laughing and slapped him on the arm. Hannah continued to find eggs, until she had a whole basket full. She plopped onto the floor and began opening eggs. Jack came over curiously and began to investigate. Hannah ended up with a lot of candy and 20 dollars and 50 cents. She pranced around excitedly, holding her prizes.
We're heading over to my grandma's house for the Annual Easter Egg Bash. She lives on a blueberry farm, and every year, my family and my brother and sister's families head over there and search for eggs. We arrive and Madelyn comes out to greet me. We try to hug, and laugh when her stomach gets in the way. She is 8 months pregnant with her second child. She has a 9 month old son named Michael, after my dad. Alex and his family are late, as usual. In fact, here he comes now. He pulls in, and his 2 children, Andy and Kaycie, jump out. Andy is 5 and Kaycie is 3. I set Hannah on the steps and bend to tie her shoes.
They're off! Hannah races along side Andy as they head for the bushes along the fence. I laugh as they scramble to pick up eggs. Madelyn is waddling around, carrying Mikey as he picks an egg out of the fence. Alex is running along side Kaycie as she heads for the ivy alongside the house. I run and catch up with Hannah. I watch as she races around, picking up easter egg after easter egg. Andy and her are in competition for who will get the most easter eggs. Jordan runs over and helps Hannah a bit by grabbing 8 easter eggs out of the bushes nearby.
The egg hunt ends, with Hannah and Andy sweating as they examine their findings. Kaycie squeals wih delight when she opens her easter eggs. She finds jelly beans, chocolate kissies, and some dimes and quarters here and there. After Hannah opens all her easter eggs, she races off to find her easter basket, leaving me with a pile of candy and quarters to pick up. Madelyn also bends down and begins to pick up Mikey's small pile of candy.
We sit down at the table, say our prayers, and dig in. Grandma has prepared a nice meal of her famous beef roast, cooked carrots, mashed potatoes, and strawberry shortcake for dessert. I fix a plate for Hannah, and she grabs eagerly for it. I also fix a plate for myself and Jordan, as he is busy helping Madelyn feed Mikey. Alex and JoBeth are busily feeding Kaycie and Andy. Madelyn's husband,Adam, was fixing himself and Madelyn a plate. We all ate and the kids took off toward the playroom upstairs. That left us grownups to talk alone.
"So Maddie," I say, calling her the childhood nickname."Whatcha gonna name the baby?"
"We're thinking about-" Adam cuts her off
" Joshua for a boy, and Jenna Madelyn for a girl."
"Those are lovely names!" I exclaim. I still haden't told everyone about our new arrival. This seemed like the perfect time.
"Well, Jordan and I have a litte announcement to make to." I say and hesitate.
" We are going to have a baby!" Jordan says excitedly, and I scowl at him. Sometimes boys can be so impatient.
"Oh! That's wonderful Holly!" Maddie says and everyone agrees.
"So what names have you decided on?" JoBeth says, the converstion now turning to me.
"Abigail Mariah for a girl-" Jordan interrupts.
"And Jared Micah for a boy."
"Thank you, Jordan." I say irritably.
A few hours later, we packed up sleeping kids in the car and all left.

Happy Easter,
Holly
