Bill,

I guess I do not see it the way that you do. I feel that when you give a voice to something, you give it your attention so that it can do what it intends to do. That which Grant was speaking of is that which divides, according to Grant. If you give a voice to those things, you give those things an opportunity to do what they desire, which is to divide. On the other hand, if you bring those things that divide, to the attention of all those concerned, so that you can remove those things, you are not giving them a voice, but rather pointing out those things that should be discarded without further disscussion on those things.

Also, I don't understand why Grant is the spokeman for all the white men that have treated Native Americans poorly in the past. I don't think that Grant could represent all the white race anyway. How can he ask forgiveness of the Native Americans, unless he has done something against them? His apologies, although perhaps done whith good intentions, is rather shallow and inadequate.

Further, Grant says that he and all the others inherit the past and that which was done to the Native Americans. How can this be? I am not responsible for what my ancestors may have done. And what happens if my ancestors did not ever mistreat the Native Americans of the past? Am I to assume the past of some other person's ancestors? Can anyone say, "Scapegoat"? I do not see a reason to apologize for people who are long dead. I live in the NOW. I live today. Should others judge me by what they think my ancestors did? Judge not unrighteously or you will be judged unrighteously.
