Subject: Help with Bachmann Set

I'm Dover-area resident, age 45, who is just getting into model railroading.
I just set up my first simple layout this weekend, using track and trains
Santa brought for Christmas. I found your club and website via the
internet. I could use some help troubleshooting why the trains jump the
track so much. It's driving me crazy. If it's going to be such a pain, I
think I'll give up model railroading before I get too deep into it and find a
new hobby.

Some background: I've got basic Bachmann equipment. HO scale, a combination
of E-Z Track and 36" flex track. The rolling stock has the plastic wheels
that came with the set. (FYI, I got the Bachmann "Challenger" train set - a
pretty basic unit.) I've nailed down all the track pieces with 3/4 inch
brads, and I've made sure the joints are pretty smooth, to the best of my
ability. So, what's up? How do you stop HO trains from jumping the track?
I've heard that metal wheels stay on the track better than plastic wheels.
So, must I convert all my rolling stock wheels to metal?

Please pass this email to anyone in your club who might be willing to chime
in with some tips. Thanks in advance from Dover.
