Paul,
Thanks for your quick response. Let me update you on my situation. Last night a local train hobby shop owner (Bill Garton) made a "house call" for me and help me quite a bit. Here's what we did to improve my situation:

1. I had one rail joint that was not connected properly, and so it was very rough. I disconnected it and rejoined the pieces, making it a smooth connection.
2. Several of the brads holding down the track needed to be driven down further. I had thought they were down far enough, but apparently I was wrong.
3. We added some weight to those cars that could accept weight -- just simple stuff like small screws and nails. Apparently, weight plays a big factor in keeping a train on the track.

One of these days I'd like to visit with you and your club. Obviously, it's a good hike from where I live south of Dover, but it would be very nice to meet you guys and learn from you. If you have any other suggestions for smooth operations, please hang onto my email address and don't hesitate to chime in. Yup, my basic set is a Bachmann, but going forward I'm learning the key things to look for in a purchase, so I may not be buying much Bachmann anymore. Jim

P.S. I should mention that I'm in the market now for a steam locomotive to pull my three Athearn Pennsylvania railroad passenger cars. Mr. Garton has several K-4 engines on display in his Wyoming DE shop, and I really like them. I have no idea if these kinds of items are sold second hand among club members, but keep me in mind if anyone is willing to part with one at a good price.
