Defense Against the Dark Arts
An Unexpected Bond

Hi everyone. Another RP lesson and another short one until I get back into the swing of things. I have to go through all past handed in homework for the last few weeks (not that there was much) and I would like to just remind you all that with the new "grade book" currently blank you can all make up the homework you haven't done yet. Writing the lesson, this is almost story like, now. Hope you guys like it.

* Samantha held her hand in her hands, still feeling the blinding pain as it thumped in her head, never waning. He was gone....for now. She felt empty as if her soul was gone and she was just a shell but she soon felt with despair. She had to do it, choose the lesser of two evils. Hand over Harry or hand over everyone else. It wasn't fair. Childhood, she thought, wasn't supposed to be surrounded by death, war, hard choices, no. It was supposed to be full of fun, friends, and family. It wasn't fair. Her life wasn't fair. She felt like it would be easier to end it, to give in. She no longer dreamed of Draco's sweet kisses by of a Dementors kiss, washing away her soul and with it her thoughts. Turning her head she listened keenly for the sound of the class. They were still at it, she could hear them yelling as they chased the small animal and hear Harry and Draco slip remarks at each other followed by Professor Figg threatening detentions. She didn't want to go back; it was too hard to go back. She decided to stay there for a while, alone. Her mind went over the conversation and her choices ran in her head. She began to talk to herself, certain that no one could hear her. *

Samantha: Why does my life have to be cursed like this? It's just not, not what I wanted. I want to be normal, average. I would rather be a Muggle than have my life. Maybe not a Muggle but I wouldn't mind be less of a magical prodigy. I can't confide in anyone anyway. Katie was killed, Professor Black is gone, Arabella is on her way to an early grave and Draco is barely hanging on. If I could just, leave. Get out of this, all of it.

*Her hand went to her wand and she idly started to twirl it in her hand and suddenly looked down at it as if an idea had struck her. She could end it. Very easily as a matter of fact. A little incantation, which was all it would take. If that didn't work she could try to disappear but she had not doubt she would be tracked down. *

Samantha: Just escape!

*She slid her hand down the wand and griped it around the handle, watching the sun gleam through the trees and her fingerprints reflected on the smooth wood. She hesitated, taking a deep breath with her eye brows knitted in reflexive thought. She closed her eyes and swallowed. Taking her wand she placed the tip on her neck. It rapped in beat with her pulse. She started to recite a spell she had learned long ago in case it ever got too bad, too unbearable. Her voice cracked with her nerves but as the image of the little girl took over her mind her voice became clearer, firmer. She could see the girl's eyes, she looked lost, alone. Her voice rose, only a few more words. Her blood was slowing, her heart as well. Almost done, it was all almost over. It seemed that she became more aware of her surrounds, she could hear the birds clearer, her friends and classmates a bit away and the rustling of something nearby. What if it was Voldermort, back again? She had to hurry. The surrounds faded away and she began top say it, the final word in the incantation, her final word. She was fading into the shadow world, the space between death and life. The small narrow road of gray in a black and white existence. Suddenly her wand was ripped from her hand and the spell was broken. She felt dizzy and it took a few moments for her to open her eyes, to return from the black tunnel. She saw in front of her a grim, she may have succeeded she thought, and she wasn't sure what lied beyond the realm of life. Her vision took a moment and then slowly cleared and she saw that the dog was only Snuffles and he held her wand between his teeth. Snuffles, being Sirius Black, had pondered the Shadow Incantation may times and knew the words as she spoke them and his mind had flashed the image of Godric's Hollow's in flames, the bodies of his friends. All of his despair had risen back to the surface and he was barely able to pull himself out of that nightmare in time to grab the wand. Samantha looked questionally at him before the coldness returned to her eyes, the unattachment she tried to show other. Even one she believed to only be a dog.*

Samantha: Can't I get a moment alone! Let go of my wand and shoo. Get away.

*Snuffles held fast to the wand and pulled it out of her grasp.*

Samantha: Give it back!

Snuffles: Roof! (Snuffles seemed to grip the wand with the side of his mouth and barked from the other end, it came out mumbled. In dog this means No bloody way!)

Samantha: Now!

Snuffles: Roof, roof! (No, I'm keeping this until you gain some sense.)

*A look of impatience passed over Samantha's face and she picked up a nearby stick and spoke as she waved it in front of him.*

Samantha: Ok, I'll trade you. This stick for that one. Come on boy, hand it over.

*She gritted her teeth as she spoke the last few words and then tossed the stick a few feet away.*

Samantha: There you go. Fetch!

* Snuffles tossed his head as if to say no and sat on the grass. Samantha began to throw all of the sticks around her in a fit of anger and tears ran through her yells.*

Samantha: Give it back to me and go away. Give it back.

*Her voice weakened at the end and she slid down next to the dog and threw the final stick. Snuffles walked over to the pile and with his nose push a new one over to her. Sam felt her heart ache. She needed something to hope for, a purpose, but of all she needed a friend. Her head was once again in her hands with her long locks falling over her face. Snuffles nuzzled her chain and forced her head up. He felt sorry for Samantha. True, she was Voldermort's daughter but she didn't want what ever life had become. She was more alone then Sirius and more afraid of opening up. Samantha read something in the dog's eyes, something familiar, something that reminded her of herself. A look of despair had once dwelled in those dark crystals and the shadow loomed, not too dark but there none the less. She felt the block and bricks that she had built around herself loose their foundations and slowly crumpled away. Falling forward she hugged at the dog who dropped her wand behind him and closed his dog eyes in reflection. They had a bond. The bond of those who had for a flicker of time lost hope, given in but had returned. They had their unexpected bond.

I really like the way that come out. I hope you guys like it. This is turning into a story and next week I am going to a different part of the class. Now for those who are thinking along certain lines; Sirius and Samantha are not in a romantic relationship. That isn't what is it supposed to be. I also want to say I am sorry for the suicidal thoughts but it just wrote that way. It felt like it fit the story. No homework. Have a good week everyone. Now for my every week e-mail message.

Now I would also like to say that everyone is welcome to owl me if they wish at
jediprins@aol.com (both Professor Figg and Arabella Peters are at this address)
in the subject bar please put this (I get a lot of junk mail and delete it so I
want to make sure I don't delete your e-mail) Owl Post To: Professor Figg
From: Your Name. If you have any ideas for the trip let me know and I will try
to add them into the plot that I have so far. Until next week!
