$2,000 to Win Open Wheel Modified Championship Thanksgiving Weekend!

Columbus Mississippi-The highest paying Open Wheel Modified event ever held at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, Mississippi will take place on Friday and Saturday evening on November 29th and 30th with a special 5:30pm start time. The $2,000 to win Modified Championship is part of the 2nd Annual Lawson Construction Possum Town Grand Prix taking place on Thanksgiving weekend. Also featured on the holiday weekend will be the $2,000 to win Cruiser World Championship, a $5,000 to win Super Late Model 50 lapper, plus local division Fall Hardcore Championships. The inaugural PTGP event in 2001 saw a large contingent of drivers on hand as 197 racecars entered in all classes at the 3/10's mile high banked clay oval with Falkville, Alabama's Chad Winkles taking the Mississippi Modified win back across the state line.

The $2,000 to win season finale' for the Goddard Performance Mississippi Modified State Championship Series is presented by William Wells Auto, Tire, and Road Side Service in Starkville, Mississippi. The big event is the final race on the 2002 Mississippi Modified Championship Tour and will decide the ever close point's title with the championship up for grabs.

The initial visit by the series at Columbus Speedway in June saw Jason Hollis take the win in convincing fashion with fellow local driver Brian Rickman finishing second as the two local Columbus based hotshoes topped the 37-car field with both drivers in full IMCA type Modified trim. Prentis, Mississippi driver Glendale Shoemake was third and the highest finishing driver in with a UMP Modified. The 20-lap Mississippi Modified event in June also went flag to flag without a single caution and was a fan pleasing affair as the area's finest drivers displayed their talent and skills. A plethora of local drivers are expected to be in action including 2002 Track Champion Brian Hollis along with Lee Ray, Matt Price, Rick Rickman, Chris Glenn, and the rest of the Columbus Speedway posse'. State Series invaders expected to be in action include perennial front runners Brant Tirello, Tony Henry, Greg and Kent Hollingsworth, Mark Herbert, Michael Blount, and many more plus infamous Super Late Model driver "The Wild Child" James Dean of Chunky, Mississippi who is coming off a big modified win at the Fall Classic in Meridian.

The 2002 PTGP will also feature exciting $800 to win Fall Hardcore Championships for the Pro Street, Street Stocks, and Mini Stock divisions. The Pro 4 division will also have their Fall Championship event as well. Qualifying will be held on Friday evening November 29th with B-Mains and Main events on Saturday evening November 30th. Racetime is set for 5:30pm in the evening each day.

Rules:
IMCA/UMP Cars allowed. Tires: IMCA G-60 or UMP A-40. NO engine claim. NO all aluminum engines. UMP cars w/aluminum heads MUST carry 50lbs weight in front of the engine plate. All cars must weigh a minimum of 2350lbs AFTER the race.
