Transgender Passport Use Study
Internet-Based
Hello all,
I am actively seeking transgender people who are willing to share their experiences in traveling internationally. I am currently studying the use of passports by transgender (including transsexuals) individuals and any difficulty, discrimination, or harassment, they have experienced in using their passport at the United States border when traveling internationally. I hope to gain insight into the process and experience of the use of identity documents for transgender people and how transgender people mediate their self identity, self presentation, and legal identity.
I am looking for people who meet the following criteria:
- People who self-identify as transgender, transsexual, or gender queer (this must be a full time identity, so this does not include transvestites, cross dressers, drag kings/queens, and the like)
- Are 18 years of age or older
- Can fluently chat online and write in English
- Have had difficulty, discrimination, harassment, or a negative experience in using their passport at the United States border.
This research is completely confidential and only the researcher will have any identifying information on the participants unless disclosure is required by law.
If you are interested in taking part in this study, please email me at transpassport@gmail.com or visit http://www.myspace.com/transpassport.
This study was approved by the institutional review board at the State University of New York at Albany on March 08, 2007.
Sincerely,
