Being in for Homecoming, I went to both football vs. Fordham and bball exhibition vs. IUP. Good but tough win for football. FU is reloading okay under Ed Foley, considering the massive FU losses on offense. We played hard and got a nailbiter for a change. BU could have been further ahead were it not for a bone headed personal foul penalty and a dropped sure interception by Ross. A "W" is a "W". Ask W.

The young bball team looked very good at most times, especially considering Mac and Abe basically got no minutes. IUP was a worthy opponent and last season they won their division of the PSAC. Speedy, double teaming, pressing club, but handled well by the Bison. The youngsters, including Griffin and Mastropaolo showed very well. The countdown to Princeton this coming Thursday is on.

thanks for the eye witness report Bucky.

winning a close football game that could have been lost is wonderful. with all the close losses in recent years, it feels good to end up on the right side again. hope this carries forward.

on the basketball front, it's great to finally get some news of any sort. getting very excited for Thursday. Princeton posters seem to run the usual range of opinions from those who are already looking ahead to playing the 'Cuse to those who recognize the Bucknell game as being very important since it determines if they play 'Cuse and knowing BU is not going to roll over. i suspect they all believe PU is the better team.

we will need big Mac for this one as Wallace is a very good center for Princeton. Abe will be a key as well as Princeton usually punishes teams that do not take care of the ball.

I noticed Griffin had 4 TO's in the exhibition.....

Good Evaluation Bucky thank you.

I think Bucknell can certainly defeat Princeton....I don't personally feel by season's end Princeton will be playing at a level that much greater than BU.

Any of you guys get the Blue Ribbon report off of ESPN? Would be an interesting read. First paragraph makes it seem BU is the team to beat and won't sneak up on anyone...just wondering if any of you had more access on the site. Looking forward to a good game on Thursday. With a new coach (albeit a Princeton hoops alum from Air Force) it could be interesting to see how they gel against our Bison.

Don't underestimate the potential contribution of Tarik Vaier-McClymont and Mastropaolo. Clark fighting an injury right now. Morrison and Thomas have very good potential, but need to grow. Onward!!!

Mastropaolo: I realize Maine is not a basketball mecca, but why was he not more heavily recruited? !st Team All-State, McDonald's All-American from Maine(not nominee mind you), and appears to be transistioning already to the college game.....

I'm surprised both he and Griffin came to BU. Kudos to the recruiting staff.....

That being said, our two early signees for next year's class have me scratching my head.....Who are these guys?

Dan,

Mastropaolo was named to the Maine McDonalds All Star Team, not quite the same thing as the national all star game. first team all staters in Maine often play D2 or D3 ball. point being that these accolades in themself are not super exceptional for a D1 schollarship player. that being said, Bucknell got a very good player and he might have been recruited more heavily, but he really emerged during AAU play after his Junior year and then signed early with BU before too many others got into the action.

as for next years signees, have faith. Flannery and his staff have a good track record for identifying talent and potential. Castleberry has a solid all around game, and plays with and against very good competition. Vegotsky is an outstanding shooter who play AAU with Griffin and played against him in HS last year. i am confident the staff has a very good assessment of their talent and would not be offering these guys early if they were questionable. they will add a lot of needed depth at the guard spots next year.

Thanks for the perspective.....and you're right....I need more faith in the Bucknell's recruiting process. Bettencourt wasn't recruited by anyone either.

As for Tarik, I think he will be very tough to contain in LEague play especially. The more polished his play becomes, the more difficult in will be for League teams to defend that mass of humanity.

follow-up on Vegotsky, his HS coach is quoted in the Philly Inquirer saying that "Penn and Princeton were in the mix." in the pre-scholly days we were rarely able to beat those two schools out for a prospect

Game note are out on the Princeton Athletics Site.

Doesn't say much about BU; however, it does indicate that they are going to be playing w/ the expanded free throw lane and 3 point line (same as international play) as a part of these games. Also, it appears there is a consolation game on Friday should things not go our way; however, we're not thinking that right now.
