Subject: New Topic: Sallie Jones Elementary School

Hello All - How's this for a new topic? Sallie Jones Elementary School on Cooper Street. It was asked earlier how many of us went there, through all our years to high school. I moved to PGI the summer of 1960, before school started (1st grade) and before Hurricane Donna.. Mike H. I didn't realize you had just moved there too! Anyway, wondering how many of us were together all twelve years, I am guessing more than we realize!

Went looking out there on the www for a little info about Sallie Jones, this is what I have found out so far. The school was established in 1956 and has currently has an enrollment level of about 700 students. There is a web page out there, but it looks like it is under construction... http://www.ccps.k12.fl.us/Schools/SJE/HomePage.htm Anyone else know history of the school? I did find that in 1937 Miss Sallie Jones elected superintendent of Charlotte County schools. Served 16 years. Introduced lunch rooms. Retired 1953 after 32 years as an educator. Also, I read in an article that "In spring 1904, the local school's second grade had a nature study course and a pupil Miss Sallie Jones, brought her cat to school to be studied by the class." Sallie must have made quite an impression...

Any, I'm digressing here.. question was how many of us went to Sallie Jones and on to Jr High and High School together?
