Subject: There Is Something About That Name

Psalms 9:10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

What's in a name? The Bible tells us in Proverbs 22:1 "A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold."

The Bible also tells us, and those of us who are redeemed know, there is no greater name ever given than the name Jesus. Jesus! Saviour! Redeemer! Oh what a lovely name.

What makes that name so special to us? Sure it is because He is our Saviour but what is it that makes His name so dear to us other than He died for us? Is it not the trust we place in that name? Is it not that we know we can rely on the words and promises that have been given to us through that name? Is it not because he has said to us; "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee"? (Hebrews 13:5) Has He not proved that many times over when we have been troubled or afraid. At the bedside of a dying loved one has He not comforted us with the peace that comes with knowing this is not the end but the beginning of a new life in heaven. Are we not comforted with the assurance that if that person has placed their trust in that wonderful name we shall see him or her again?

This is the same Jesus who has told us there will be no more sting of death, no more sorrow and weeping. No sickness nor dying? David had seen the truths of God's promises born out time and again and he trusted that name above all others.

Man will fail us. Intentionally or unintentionally he will fail us. Jesus has never failed us and he never will. Oh you say; "I prayed earnestly for something that I did not receive". So have I but He didn't fail me in that. He knows the end from the beginning and answers according to what is best for me and also according to His sovereignty. God has a permissive will and an explicit will. The permissive cannot overrule the explicit. Also the Bible tells us we don't even know how to pray nor what to pray for. Let this verse comfort us concerning our prayers. Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Even in our prayers God takes over through the Holy Ghost and does our praying for us according to His will and our need. I said "need" not want! The two verses following Romans 8:26 should give us that assurance we need in knowing God is "editing" our prayers: Romans 8:27-28 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose .

Having pondered these things in our hearts we, with full assurance, should realize God is doing what is best for us even if we think we know what is best.

Psalms 5:11-12 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. 12 For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

I just counseled a friend last week who said God wasn't listening to her prayers and her life was miserable and she didn't feel he cared. I told her he is always with us and he cares. He answers our prayers as per HIS will, not ours, but that we don't always know when our prayers are being answered. Sometimes they are answered in different ways. I hope I helped her.

God answers according to His will and what is best for that person. First a person praying must be in fellowship with the Lord. Some prayers require time and then there are the times the Lord just says no.

The mark of a strong Christian is accepting God's will in these matters and claiming Romans 8:28.

She is a good Christian lady who always got much from her faith, but she had so many things happening to her, she felt abandoned by God. I hope my words helped draw her back to him and set her back on course. Please pray for her. Her name is Theresa.

Try and get her to read the Book of Job.
If she will read it and seek God's guidance as she reads it should help her immensely.

The Book not only shows the interaction of God and Satan in the lives of believers but it shows how to triumph by perseverance.

If she wil remain stedfast the Lord will deliver her.

I will remember her when I pray.

You should have mentioned that sometimes the answer is no. I often answer peoples requests with no. He has told me, "No." many times. The answer can also be "wait"
