Subject: Thanksgiving Every Day

1 Chronicles 16:8-11 Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people. 9 Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works. 10 Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. 11 Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.

As another Thanksgiving rolls around we should stop and ask ourselves just how thankful to the Lord we are. Does it show?

David, in the verses above has just brought the ark to the tabernacle and is overjoyed and thankful to God for His presence being with them again. As David rehearses the words of his psalm to the people he gives some good instruction on making known his thanks to the Lord. In giving thanks he tells the people to call on the name of the Lord and make known what God has done among the people. The greatest witness and testimony a person can have is to declare before others what He has done for you. The Apostle Paul gave his testimony of salvation everywhere he went. He was not shy in telling others what God had brought him through in his many trials and troubles. What He has done for your He will do for others that meet His conditions.

Next David says sing. Joy in the hearts will come out the mouth in song. David says sing psalms unto the Lord. Sing love songs unto Him. Johnny Parrack used to sing with the Kingsmen many years ago and I had the good fortune to hear him sing in a revival meeting in a church about 10 miles from my home. He sang "Jesus I Love You" and I will never forget it. The whole church was moved and several gave their hearts unto the Lord that night. Johnny wasn't singing to the congregation and he wasn't trying to entertain. He was singing with all his heart unto the Lord and the congregation felt the Spirit of God moving on the service because of his love song.

"ye of all his wondrous works": Johnny had just come off another revival in east Tennessee. It was a youth revival and if I remember the number correctly there were about 20 young people who had given their lives to Jesus and were saved. Johnny was walking on the clouds and didn't hesitate to tell what all Jesus had done and was doing.

"Glory ye in his holy name": Glorying in the Lord is rejoicing in the Lord as a child to a greatly beloved parent. It is a desire to be as near to the Lord as you can get.

"Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually". It is seeking Him morning, noon and night as on who is supremely loved by you.

Thanksgiving is not in our words to the Lord in prayer. Thanksgiving is our heart attitude toward God that desires Him and not just what He has done for you. True thanksgiving is still loving and appreciating God when He tells us no to a petition we greatly desire from Him. Accepting His sovereignty in a matter of disappointment yet still having an abounding love for Him is truly well received from God.

May we put forth a special effort this Thanksgiving to let God know we would like to turn every day into a special day of thanksgiving to Him.

I don't give the Lord nearly enough attention, yet he is always with me. I need to work on that shortcoming and find more ways to remember Him. Thank you for a very eye-opening study.
I hope you and Dale and the family had a wonderful day of Thanksgiving, which I'm sure you have every day. God bless!
