Subject: If you could change one thing . . .

Envision your life as it is today. Take in consideration the people in your life, where you live, the communities you are involved with, your school/work, and any personal endeavors. Are there any areas in your life that you wish could change or want to change? If you could change your circumstances, how would your life be better? Are there any steps you can take to lead yourself in that direction?

This question arises from the current chapter I am working on in Soul Mapping, and an interview I saw yesterday on MTV's about Mary J. Blige. Due to her success as a singer, she was able to take her family out of the projects. But it wasn't a easy ride. As a child, she was exposed to experiences that no one should have to go through (i.e. shootings, mugging, you name it). It was a very humbling interview. For those of us that grew up in the suburbs, it makes us (or at least me) thankful. I would take a boring midwest upbringing any day compared to what children in the projects experience.

As for my current circumstances, the one thing that I would like to change is my involvement with the community. I would like to get involved with at least one volunteer organization. However, this has been one of my new years resolutions that I haven't gotten very far on. There are typically months at a time where my free time becomes crunched such the last month and a half. So when I do get free time, I want it all for myself. Ah, priorities, priorities.

At least you're honest about your priorities. Far better than making excuses and trying to appear as something different to what you really are.. If I could change one thing, it'd be my willingness to change. I'm quite happy to daydream away, spend my entire life only half concious.. reality can be so distracting sometimes.. I think I'd make a lot of people happier if I played the game and visited earth more often. But because I'm content to kick back and try to enjoy things as they are, I probably miss a lot of things I could be changing in my life.. I used to do a lot of volunteer work, visit elderly peoples' homes and read to them, that sort of thing.. You've made me want to get back to that now :) I also think this forum's a good idea, and all the credit you give where it's due for hosts, html and all that.. One thing I can and will change is that I sometimes struggle to find the time to paint. Some things are worth making time for.. have to be more assertive about that.
