It is a lovely walk.
Rather than taking a car I suggest getting the 7am Sougia to Chania bus (bit early I know!) It will drop you at the higher end of the Gorge about 45 minutes later. At the south end of the gorge there is still a 3 mile plus walk along roads back to Sougia. We did this part in boiling hot sunshine though we managed to hitch a lift the last mile or so on the main road.
Sorry we can't join you on the walk, we are in Sougia at end of September.
