Depends on who you ask. According to the US Weather service, a weak El Nino pattern has been detected.
According to others, i.e Mitch Battros and Michael Mandeville, underwater volcanic activity in the Pacific and the ongoing solar activity from the 11 year(yeah, right)sunspot cycle, are the more likely candidates for the "El Nino"-like weather patterns that are being experienced.
