Been there, done that. Still do, in fact. :-) The first thing I can tell you, as an old China hand at second shift work, is that you need to give your body time to adjust to this new schedule you're keeping. It took me a while before I figured out exactly how much sleep I needed to be functional; and since I've moved in with my other half, things have gotten more complicated, because HE works days. This means that four nights a week, I don't have uninterrupted rest - I get home between 2 and 2:30, get to bed close to 3, and his alarm goes off between 5-6, depending on his day's requirements. It's difficult, and it's made me prone to drinking more coffee than I'd like.

The problem with working second shift generally comes with not keeping those kind of hours all week long. If you're switching back and forth between late nights and early nights, you're asking your system to do a lot of adjusting - and I'm speaking from experience here. If you can at least try to get the same amount of sleep every night it will help a little, but until you adjust to the new time zone you're in, don't try to push yourself too hard. Things will work out (no pun intended), but that will be up to your body, and not your mind.

Sorry it's not too helpful, but at least you know what to expect.

:) LC
