In reply to: Judy 's message, "Lunch Outside" on 16:04:09 06/12/02 Wed

The way we understand lunch is that kids have a rushed 10 minutes to eat and then must leave the lunchroom to go outside. Right now (summer months), the school opens the P.E. room for kids to sit in the shade, and we think there is a movie shown in there for the duration of the lunch period. Or children can play outside in the heat, which of course we are concerned about.

The kids were probably outside for lunch because of the Music Program yesterday. Not that it's justified, just trying to figure out why students would be in 100+ degree weather. If we aren't vigilant, the school pushes it to the limit.

The question is, if the school is so concerned and opens the P.E. room during lunch for kids to be in the shade, why should P.E. class be any different? There are no organized activities inside the P.E. room during P.E. class, which we were assured by our principal that the "P.E. teacher has adjusted her schedule for the summer months." We've yet to see it.
