lee, u really gotta get into the water. i understand ur fears, especially for a non-swimmer. but wat chris said is valid, go with a life jacket and u cant sink even if u wan to. here's a little story:

during my trip, i saw a girl (who usually go out snorkelling trips same batch as me) who's quaking with fear.. and it took tremendous amt of time persuading her to step into the water fr the boat. and with life jacket AND a personal guide (guide is employee of the resort), she finally made the plunge, and the guide's always with her. trick is, to overcome ur ear and take the first plunge! after dat u'll be kicking urself why u hadn't done it sooner.

ok, different pple has different fear levels. if u really cant get into the water, to answer ur qn here wat u can do besides snorkelling.

think why u go to redang in the first place.
think again why u go to redang and didnt touch the water.
think abt whr u've put ur balls.
think why u're such a chicken.

after done thinking, here's ohter stuffs u can do.

board games provided by resorts
taking photos
join the nite beach disco at redang beach resort
visit other resorts during nite
trekking
boat trip to marine park and roam the park on foot
support the new PM's pro-baby guidelines and do wat u can to help spore :D
look forward to meal times
strike up conversation or get frenly wif the resorts' staffs
plan wen u can take up swimming lesson and go redang again.

have fun.

Jungle treking - man man trail and path from Pasir Panjang Beach to Berjaya Hotel.

Reading,
Squirrel watching,
Wild-life watching: birds, monkeys, monitor lizard, newts, frogs, etc.
Coconut drinking,
Walking along the beach during sunrise and sunset,
Beach exploration from Pasir Panjang to Teluk Kalong,
Star Gazing - this is awesome on Redang Island!
Makan - Buffet, Seafood, Barbeque, Ice Kacang;
Shopping - for T-shirts, really nice ones,

Getting away from city living, for e.g. at Coral Redang: rooms has no phone, no t.v., no radio, bad to no cell phone reception, no newspaper.

Relax and enjoy the experience... :)
