Subject: Recommendations for 'Discovery Dives'

Hi,

I'm planning to go redang soon and would like to go for a dive. But its been years since I've last dived and my boyfriend can't dive either.

Can someone recommend which dive shop offers some kind of crash course for me to refresh my skills and for my boyfriend to join in as well? Thanks.

If you're talking about discovery dives in Redang Island itself. Consider the dive center at Coral Redang Beach Resort. They have two certified instructors: NAUI and SSI. Their dive center is well equipped, and the staff are mostly friendly, knowledgeable and easy going.

Most dive centres at Pasir Panjang in Redang offer Discovery Dives where a qualified instructor or divemaster will bring non-divers on a shallow dive to experience scuba. You can accompany your boyfriend on such discovery dives if you wish, as a diver - since it's usually a shallow and easy dive, it'll be a good way to familiarize yourself again with equipment, procedures & skills.

Alternatively, tell the dive centre that you have not been diving for some time and wish to do a checkout dive first. Most good dive centres would make the first dive a checkout dive if they do not know you and are not sure about your skills and capabilities. Don't forget to bring your C-card and logbook.
