There are different conditions that may bring on asthmatic attacks and different degrees of seriousness, from mild to chronic. Whether your friend can dive or not depends on her type of asthmatic condition. For example, exercise or cold-induced asthmatics, and those that require rescue medication should not dive, since diving requires physical exertion, and the water temperature can be cold (divers tend to lose a lot of body heat while diving).
