I stayed overnight at the Awana Kijal after 9 days in Redang and Lang Tengah. The drive from Merang to Kijal was a couple of hours I think (excluding our stop at Tg Jara for lunch). The beach at Kijal is not a coral beach and I doubt there will be anything exciting to see in the waters. But they organize trips to Pulau Tenggol if I'm not mistaken. The Awana Kijal is HUGE and there is an activities desk. Why don't you email or call them before hand to see what they can offer in terms of organizing diving trips. They were quite responsive to our queries.
