>The night before last, while I was visiting--Jim--a handicapped fellow whose computer we were setting up, my car was towed off by a private towing company, presumably one that has an agreement with the management of the condo complex in which he has lived for twenty years. Although there are several parking signs all about the parking lot saying, Parking for Tenants Only, this is the first time, he avers, that he has ever heard of anyone being towed. Furthermore, he avers that people whom he knows well often spend the night in one of the two parking spaces outside his door. Moreover, no one has ever complained about this because he, the only handicapped person in the proximity, would be the only one to complain. On Wednesday night were many more vacant parking spaces (including the two handicapped spaces) than occupied ones. I chose to park in one of the handicapped spaces, not having the slightest thought that my car would be haulded off.
The reason the towing company off was obviously to make itself some easy money. The fee to get my car back was $141 ($95 flat fee for towing, an extra $36 for towing it a dollar per mile (when in actuality the distance was less than twenty miles,) and $10 for storage (although the car was impounded for less than twelve hours.)
I maintain that the tow company had no right to do as they did, and I think that the condo management is just as guilty. I'd like to sue them both, but don't know how to go about it. In my opinion they are unconscionably preying on the unwitting public.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Tom
