In reply to: Eleanor (Speirs) Wilson 's message, "Bridgeton and the tenements... Carolas ice cream Gizzies etc" on 14:54:20 08/22/02 Thu

My grandmother lived at 518 London Rd facing Abercrombie St and used to take me, as the eldest grandchild at that point, to the carnival at the Glasgow Green every year. She would save coins all year in a jar for the purpose of having our "treat". She would always win at the bingo and loved the Big Wheel. On the way home we would stop at the fish & chip shop in Main St and if we were lucky enough to get a seat would have our final treat for the day in a fish tea. If not, we'd take some home. I have great memories of Bridgeton, Glasgow and tenement life. ruth
