Veteran broadcaster John Lynker died Monday in Middletown. He was 75 and suffered from heart and lung disease.

During a career that spanned half a century, Lynker worked at radio stations across the country, including WCBS and WINS in New York, WWJ in Detroit and KGO in San Francisco.

His final stop was WTOP, the all-news station serving the nation's capital, where he had first worked in 1969. He returned in 1980 as a news anchor and automotive reporter and stayed until semi-retiring in October 2001 and moving to Connecticut.

During his stint at WTOP, Lynker received a Broadcasting Legend award from the Washington Area Broadcasters Association.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a commissioned Coast Guard Captain. He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, five children and six grandchildren.
