'Taker whistled low and long as he took in Paul's handiwork. Moving to get a better look, he brushed past the irrate man and took up one slim delicate hand which had slipped of the side of that table when Kane had viciously grasped the sheet cover.

"She looks almost real, Paul." 'Taker's tone was almost reverent.

"Apparently not real enough!" Bearer groused as he stepped up next to 'Taker.

"Aww now - don't go lettin yer feelings be hurt. Ya gotta look'it this from Kane's pointa view. To you 'n me, this here's a real fine piece a work. To him it's just another reminder that he's a freak 'r sumthin." 'Taker felt along the long graceful arm, wondering at how much this 'doll' felt like the real thing. "'Sides, he's a bit too big t'be playin with dolls, Paul. I told ya that three months ago."

"I wish you'd stop calling 'IT' a doll. It's a model I've been working on for some years now - on paper, that is. I first hit upon the idea while trying to come up with some synthetic material that would graft well for reconstruction on Kane's face. I figured why stop at the skin when the whole body could be reproduced for such use." Paul fingered the curling locks of roan red hair that reached down to the backside of the beauty on the table.

"I know Paul, and ya done good here. But she ain't 'real' no matter how ya tell it, and THAT's all Kane sees." 'Taker found himself wondering how this thing would sound if it could talk, and what color the eyes would be if they could open.

On thing Kane had missed, because he hadn't looked, was how much this form resembled their mother. 'Taker blinked back a feeling of fullness in his eyes, something that always seemed to happen whenever he was reminded of their loss, or when he caught sight of the 'good-side' of Kane's fire scarred face.

"What was he supposed to do, Paul? Drag 'er around like some oversized teddybear then take 'er t'bed t'cuddle with at night?" 'Taker turned to sarcasim as he floundered in emotion.

"She's fully functional - uh, ahem. He could have done any of the things YOU do with the - ah - women you - er - entertain with frequency." Bearer blushed as 'Taker turned unrelenting orbs of emerald ice on him.

"A freakin' blow-up doll - AW fer cryin out loud Paul!!!" 'Taker flung the hand he'd been holding down as he turned toward the door.

"SHE's NOT a DOLL!" Bearer hissed as he moved swiftly to a laptop next to the work table and jabbed at a few keys. "I've asked you BOTH to have a little faith in me - but NOOOO - you have to act like I'm some crazed mad-scientist!"

'Taker watched the man jab furiously at the laptop keys before he would pause and glance at the doll on the slab. He'd whimper then punch at the keyboard some more - all the while swearing his and Kane's names. After a few minutes of watching the mounting frustration, 'Taker quietly left the basement work shop in search of Kane. He had a feeling this was the straw that had broken his siblings back, where the relationship with Bearer was concerned. Knowing Kane wasn't ready to be out there on his own yet, he thought it might be worth a try to get things patched up before they got too ugly to redeem.

Bearer whirled around, eyes wildly searching for 'Taker. See he'd been left to his own devices, he stalked fuming over to the book-shelf and took out an old volume, which he placed on the naked torso of his finest work. The fact that the pages fell open to the page he needed, he took as an omen of success. He folded his pudgy hands together and began to recite the ancient words no human ears had heard for centuries. He was to repeat the revered words thirteen times, each time more commandingly than the last - then step back and wait. At the sixth recitation, he felt the room become charged with electricity - by the tenth, he had a hard time concentrating, let alone voicing the words, the energy surrounding him was that thick. At thirteen, he didn't NEED to take a step back, the force eminating from the still form on his work bench had pushed his portly form back a good two feet.

At a sound like a coconut being cracked open, only MUCH louder, Paul's eyes widened to the size of baseballs as he watched the old tome begin to move with the rise and fall of the chest it rested upon. A sharp and bright blue light shot up from the pages, causing Paul to cower and bring his arm up to his eyes. His slicked down hair rose up off is head and a whimper escaped him as a moan drifted to his ears.

In a heartbeat, it was all over - and Paul brought his arm down as the form on the table sat up and glanced about the room. As her warm blue eyes rested on him, a soft beguiling smile lifted once lifeless lips.

"Am I for you?" Paul heard the sweetest voice imaginable ask as one finely chiseled eyebrow lifted.
