I think that Chickering's theory is right on. If no one wanted me to succeed I probobly would not have wanted myself to succeed. Maybe it takes a job working at McDonalds as a cook slaving over a hot grill (my 1st job at 16) to appreciate success and a good college education because I really didn't want to do that the rest of my life.
For the RA's, we are also role models and we need to be a part of our residents lives and actually take an interest in their well being. After all, we would not be here if there were no students to look after. I think the RA's mostly realize this fact that the students keep them employed and generally want to care about their residents. We are all outgoing people chosen for this job, not recluses to our residents.
