Thanks to JAK for the pointers (I'll study some claw/talon applications ahead of time).

Ferrell-- from what I've seen, the kerambit is put into what we would call the waistband along the hip, and in Indonesia it was/is the rolled sarong or whatever you call them, the batik pants that are rolled down to fasten. Forward or reverse grip. This way it stays secured and concealed, but a quick motion brings it into action. The curvature of the weapon matches that of the hip-- it's hard to describe without demonstrating.

A Silat guy told me about this (man I have to find a Silat instructor around here) and said that in the past and to this day in a lot of parts of the archipelago, when guys have their hands around their hips, people get nervous....
