Doug:

Lines, motions etc are similar thruout all arts. This is because mankind was only given two arms and two legs.... they all work the same, look similar. Race, origin etc.. does not figure in. All the same. This in turn tells the scholar that there is really only one thing that counts (whether we use fists, knives, guns, stix) and that thing is the man and the motion that his framework is capable of, knowledge can help him guide and position this limited motion base. The "framework" always remains constant. It's this underlying framework that is impoertant IE: (the running gear beneath the body of the vehicle, that stuff ya don't see).
At some point the scholar quits seeing "style", size, weapon, etc... and begins seeing the "lines"...

And yes, deception surely plays a big role in Espada y daga too. The part about wrapping the arm w/ a jacket or serape is a very real and effective method of knife fighting.
Hey, use the IDEA only...upgrade it to modern times, voila !
MODERN KNIFE COMBAT... meaning upgrade: To switch a mere jacket that you'd wrap about your arm, try one of the new, flexible-litewt. BULLETPROOF fabrics.. wrap-drape that over a limb, use to avert cuts just like the serape. but, in case he steps up the pace some, use it as a bullet deflection shield also... as you move in to knife range.....
OK, I better git, loads to do yet today.
Thanx all....
JAK
