Subject: 1998 Mercury Mystique Question

Hello -
I am the proud owner of a 1998 Mercury Mystique LS 24-valve DOHC Duratec V-6 automatic transmission(65k miles).
My parents are the original owners and it rides like a dream. I've had her for about a year - my dad is a car enthusiast and has taken immaculate care of her.
I'm having a problem and I hope someone can give me some insight:
2 weeks ago I picked up a friend at the airport - it's a further distance that I normally drive and after getting off the freeway, the Mercury was shifing in a jerky, hard manner - kind of like it was throwing itself into gear - and it appeared to happen both while shifting up or down. I pulled over, turned off the engine, sat for a moment and then restarted and everything was fine.
It happened again last night - I drove a bit farther than I do in my normal routine (back and forth to work) and she started shifting in a jerky manner - I stopped, restarted and again, everything was fine.
Any ideas of what's going on ? I just had the transmission fluid changed a month ago (it was due at 60k).
Your ideas and assistance are appreciated - Thank you !
KO
