Subject: 87 Ranger

I have been primarily a Ford tech. for the last 30+ years with several years dealership experience. I have an 87 Ranger that is giving me gray hair. It stalls after starting when cold and gets progressively worse as the weather turns colder. The veh. is a 2.9L 4X4 Auto in good condition and with 173k on the clock. I have done everything I know to do to stop this problem with little improvement. It will start immediately and die about as soon. I have done all the tune up items, wires, plugs, filters. Cleaned the injectors, cleaned the throttle body, cleaned the induction system. Replaced the ACT and CTS sensors. Checked for codes (none present). Checked timing and advance. Replaced the TPS, substituted a MAP sensor. Fuel pressure and volume are good. Engine runs fine except for the cold start problems. In short checked about all the mechanical causes from basic to exotic. It will run upon being started, but as soon as you put it in drive she dies. If you let it warm up a minute or so it will run, but may stumble some as you put it in drive. Also the A/B valve as also been replaced. Have you got any ideas?
