Subject: Incorrect Fuel gauge reading / misfire / jerking

I recall getting an incorrect reading on my fuel gauge about a month ago. On the way to work it showed that I was almost on empty (which was correct) but then when I was on my way to get gas at lunch time, the gauge was reading that there was a quarter of a tank of gas left (incorrect.) I thought that was weird but never thought much more about it. However, now I'm experiencing a misfire (blinking check engine light) when I try to accelerate hard Also, when I'm steadly cruising down the highway and the engine rpms drop (over drive) and I need to accelerate suddenly, there is jerking.

I changed the fuel filter and added fuel system cleaner to the gas tank. The problem is still there, but the jerking is not as bad as it was previously, but still bad.
