In reply to: Tony 's message, "Incorrect Fuel gauge reading / misfire / jerking" on 03/ 4/04 5:07pm

....sorry, I failed to mention that the vehicle having this problem is a 2000 Ford Expedition (4.6 engine w/coil on plug.) In addition...I was inspecting some of the vacumm hoses and found that the hose connecting from the throttle body to the Vapor Management Valve may be faulty (I hear a hissing sound that stops when I move the hose.) Could a leak in this hose be causing the problems I described in my prior message (below)?

I recall getting an incorrect reading on my fuel gauge about a month ago. On the way to work it showed that I was almost on empty (which was correct) but then when I was on my way to get gas at lunch time, the gauge was reading that there was a quarter of a tank of gas left (incorrect.) I thought that was weird but never thought much more about it. However, now I'm experiencing a misfire (blinking check engine light) when I try to accelerate hard. Also, when I'm steadily cruising down the highway and the engine rpms drop ( into over drive) and I need to accelerate suddenly, there is jerking and hesitation. (ADDITIONAL NOTE: at that point, I release the gas pedal and re-press the peddle, but harder and I am able to avoid the jerking/hesitation.)

I changed the fuel filter and added fuel system cleaner to the gas tank. The problem is still there, but the jerking is not as bad as it was previously, but still bad.
