Subject: 97 ford taurus a/c compressor problem

97 taurus has 2 very small hairline cracks in compressor-went to purchase the compressor from the ford parts dealer-ref me to compressor that looks nothing like what is on my car-after several attempts to locate what is on my car was told that my car was part of a "pilot program" for the compressor.it looks as if all connecting parts must be replaced to accomodate the compressor that references back to my car.can anyone help me w/this problem? why is there not a compressor to match the one that is on my car instead of spending addl. $$$$ for parts that don't necessarily need replacing but must be to accomodate compressor!does this make sense?anybody got an answer????thanks
