She had waited long enough to see if any others would join her in the hunt. She probably should have howled for assistance, but that would have spoiled her ambush. Unlike most wolves, Nychta preferred to catch her prey by surprise instead of wasting energy chasing the target. Lupines had amazing stamina for long-distance runs for the most part. Unfortunately for Ny, however, she was not a typical wolf. She lacked the strength and endurance most possessed and so had to settle hunting like a great cat rather than like a canid.

She moved through the brush just close enough to the doe so that the deer's scent filled her nostrils and flooded her senses. The stupid beast continued to munch away on some of the sparse grasses that managed to poke its way through the damp litter that convered the delta's terrain.

Every sinew within her coiled tightly before a burst of energy allowed her to release the tension with a terrific leap. She latched onto the doe's rump only to be kicked by the sharp hind hooves of the beast as it reacted to Ny's attack. The power of the kick flung the wolfess back a few measures. She recovered quickly enough to chase after the doe as it fled from the forested region. Her legs pulled her form over the rolling foliage with an elegant fury as she rushed after her prey, but the doe took a sharp turn and ran towards the left. Nychta, unable to stop herself in time, ran smack into a tree. A high pitched yipe filled the air as she collided with the massive arbor. Pain rushed through her jarred skull and neck and filled her mind with undefinable shapes and colors. She gave a good shake to her head before stumbling down to her haunches, her head hung low in pain and defeat. Heh...she never claimed to be the best huntress, now did she?
