Right there with ya Phae. I do like Xander, but I have a lot of problems with him too, and I would like to see some Xander lovers come out to discuss some of these points about their favorite character.

I was a little disgusted with Xander in episodes 3 and 4, so much so that I have to wonder why ME is keeping him in such a rut. The good-hearted, jokey slacker-guy persona Xander sported in high school and the year after was endearing, but now it just seems pathetic. Every other character has changed, and it just doesn't seem real that Xander wouldn't also have changed.

One thing I particularly wish they would do something about is Xander's tendency to jump to conclusions--always wrong ones, I might add. The way he wrote Cassie off after seeing her Web poetry really made him look like an ass. Dismissing her as "someone who's got a hard-on for the big dirt nap" was the latest example of the way he rushes to judgement--and jumps to the wrong conclusions. This just makes him look like a judgemental dolt. Since part of Xander's appeal is that he's the everyday guy, the schlumpy friend with no superpowers, it would be nice if they made him a little more perceptive. Also, I'm getting tired of hearing all about what a great heart Xander has but I haven't seen any evidence of that on the screen for quite a while now.

Xander in S7 is an amalgam of all previous Xanders. He'll show up exhibiting any part of his personality from any season at nearly any time.

Give the guy a break.....

Just kidding, Lij.... ;)

Nope, Xander--or rather, ME, since they are responsible for the way he's written--gets no break from me because I don't think they've worked on or developed his personality since early season 5.

But on a more positive note, I thought he was very sympathetic in last week's ep. And I love the fact that he's been put in a position where he is the one arguing to bend the rules.
