Subject: shedding and grooming

I two 10 month old pekes are shedding. They had beautiful long coats which I brush every day or every other day. Since the Texas heat is burning up,I had the little guys fur trimmed down to a puppy cut. They pretty much stay indoors except when they want to play outside. Is it a good idea to get their hair shave or should I have left them as they were? Does it make any difference? I have noticed that they are still shedding. I don't have them as show dogs, just as companion pets. I was planning to but one of those small hard plastic kiddie pool so when they get hot they can jump in to cool down. Does anyone think this is a bad idea?
