When you help others, how do you do it?

Let's say you're wealthy. Should you simply give the money to the poor, or should you employ the poor? What is actually best for the poor? I think the value of being able to feed oneself is a great gift, better than a handout. So employ a cook and watch oprah if you want! Just make sure you employ the cook at a livable wage... not any of these stinking minimum wage jobs where the people still qualify for food stamps.

If a poor person can sit on their duff and watch TV, so can a rich one. But there is plenty of good in this world that needs to be done, I think a wise person with money to share would give some away yes, but best put the rest to work letting others earn it. Wouldn't it have been great if Sam Walton had worried more about how to make all his employees have a decent wage, then turned the profit into other ways of even more employees earning different wages... instead of cutting the throats of businesses everywhere, making employees work off the time clock, and paying unlivable wages? His vision appears to have been to line his pockets, and screw everyone else. How sad. It's working. Even sadder.

I believe that wealth can be a wonderful blessing if you use it to bless the lives of others. No one should be ashamed of wealth... only of how they use it.

It would be a huge and AWESOME thing for us all to become self-sufficient in more ways, TTB. I don't know how to garden... but I'm going to learn. I have a small area I can use next year. I'm going to learn to can and all that stuff. We all should become more capable.

KathyT
