some list will come out that says how much it costs to raise a child from birth to age 21. Dh and I ALWAYS laugh!!!!!!! No WAY does it cost us what these "experts" say it does. I grew up in a home that didn't always have much, but I got what I wanted because I WORKED!!!! My dh and I have been blessed that he has a very good income, BUT so many of the things that they say children "need" today, my children don't have. I usually shop at thrift shops, we eat off our food storage, we conserve and so on...my children are taught young to use money wisely, they DON"T get allowances (they do extra jobs around for money) and the older ones get jobs. My oldest has nearly paid for all of her college thus far and my second to the oldest will start to pay for her college in the fall. We have no x boxes, Ipods, video games, (we do have several computers) and if my children want any of those things, they would have to earn the money for it. Several of my children are accomplished in music and they have taught themselves to play their instruments...one is currently taking lessons for violin...she taught herself as far as she could and felt she couldn't progress without a teacher... she and I are splitting the cost 50/50. The same child has also taught herself piano and flute and plays both very well. Children are expensive, but not as expensive as society makes them out to be.
