It has been long since that first day on the island. Nightingale has recovered from her wounds, and it is clear now from her rounded belly that she is pregnant.

Restlessly she paces along the short, looking towards the ainland. She must escape this place before her foal is born. Otherwise the steed may do to her someday what he did to Nightingale. For the mare can sense already that her foal is a filly. And so she taps into her magic and vanishes without a trace, returning to the place she knows best.
