Basic triad chords di kunci C.
- = minor

C-E-G (I), D-F-A (II-), E-G-B (III-), F-A-C (IV), G-B-D (V),
A-C-E (VI-), B-D-F (VII-b5), 'C-E-G (I).

C = I, D-= II-, E = III-, F = IV, G = V, A = VI-,
B = VII-b5. Angka Romawi sebaiknya dihafal untuk analisa chord's progression di intermediate lesson.
(VII-b5 bisa juga ditulis VIIo).
Kesimpulannya:
I adalah tonic= nada kunci. Jadi umpamanya kita mulai dari
F, berarti F adalah tonic, G- adalah II- dst.

I, II-, III-, IV, V, VI-, VII-b5 adalah progression berdasarkan major scale dari tonic.

Sebaiknya akkord2 diatas dilatih juga di semua tangga nada, contohnya di kunci D:
D-F#-A (I), E-G-B (II-), F#-A-C# (III-), G-B-D (IV), A-C#-E
(V), B-D-F# (VI-), C#-E-G (VII-b5), 'D-F#-A (I).

Berikutnya dikunci E, F, G, A dan B, dimainkan akkordnya dan
di arpeggio (satu persatu nada dimainkan), kemudian up and
downward, jadi keatas dan balik lagi kebawah.
Setelah mulai lancar, dilatih secara chromatic,
mulai lagi dari kunci C, C#, D, Eb(D#), F, F#(Gb), G, G#(Ab), A, A#(Bb), B, 'C.

Kedengarannya memang membosankan, tapi, kalau mau tahu cara
membangun rumah, kita juga patut mengetahui bahan2 dan takarannya, misalkan semen, pasir, batu bata dll.
Untuk mempelajari Jazz diperlukan ketekunan, kesabaran dan disiplin yg tinggi.
