For the past year or so Gracie has required her anal glands to be expressed about every 8 weeks. I get the vet to do it since I am afraid of hurting her. Usually the dog will indicate in some way that this needs to be done, including straining when eliminating, licking and scooting the butt across the floor. Although bleeding is not usually part of this, perhaps he needs this done? When I did a bit of research I found out that there are things that can cause discomfort and pain and various amounts of bleeding and that in all cases the dog should be taken to the vet ASAP.
