Oh that's a tough one. My first adopted CC broke her leg 3 days after we adopted her and my vet told me the same thing. Because she had spent the first part of her life crated 24/7 it just killed me to do it. I did crate her when we were not home, but when I was home & weekends I carried her in a papoose so she was with me constantly (and that's the reason she's the spoiled rotten alpha bitch in the house now).

Is your crate one of the closed crates (like an airline crate) or is it an open wire crate? If not a wire crate, maybe she'd be more agreeable to type where she can see much more of what's going on around her. They also have some really cool tent/soft sided crates out there now too.

As for her fighting the crating, you might try giving her some Rescue Remedy or Anxiety made by Homeopet. These are all natural relantants/anti-anxiety therapies and work very well. They'll work immediately, but in a situation such as this, it would work best by adding drops in her water or food so she's getting it constantly to keep her on an even keel. If that doesn't work, I'd talk to the vet about giving her a mild sedative so she doesn't hurt herself. It really is imperative to keep her as quiet as possible and off that bum leg.

Let us know how it goes.
