Jerry,

My dog was diagnosed 2 1/2 years ago with CHF. If you are in S. Florida, I use a great Cardiologist. Every dog must be treated individually, but this doctor put my dog on an Lasix, Benazepril & Pimobendan. She also takes hydrocodone twice a day for the cough.

My girl is still very happy, active & her lungs have been free of fluid. I get her labs checked every 6 months & a chest x-ray done every 3 months. If her cough increases between visits, I run to the doctor to check her.

For me, going to the Cardiologist has been the best decision I could have made for my little Suzi girl.
I also watch the sodium intake in the foods I give her. Processed foods (cold cuts) & many dog treats are high in sodium. Sodium will make the dogs retain fluids, including in the lungs.

Good luck.

Annette
