Annette,
I feel exactly how you feel. My Bela is 11 1/2 years old. She's been progressively loosing her sight until last year when the vet told me it wasn't cataracts as I thought, it was PRA. She is completely blind now and gets around just fine. She even deals pretty well with all the puppies in the house...we adopted three crested boys this past spring. It does break my heart but I'm immpressed with her braveness everyday...up and down the stairs she goes as if she could see. She even goes outside when the weather is nice enough instead of using the potty mats.
I actually logged into the site tonight to see if anyone has had any experience with their PRA dog's eyes going "red". Both of her eyes are/were milky white...almost glowed in the dark. Today I noticed the one eye was red...kind of glowing red. I've tried to find out if maybe it's a broken blood vessel but all the vets are closed being it's a holiday. It's not bothering her at all or else I'd take her to the emergency clinic which we're lucky enough to have here.
Try not to worry too much about her. She sounds like she's doing fine. I cry about Bela's age too...I can't stand the thought of loosing her or her sister Sweetpea.
