Subject: Screen Vs. Screen

I have a Vivante SE PII 266 and a Vivante SE MMX 233 (both purchased in 1998). My issue is that the PII screen display is good but the MMX display is even better! The MMX screen display is much richer in color (icons look more colorful and more detailed). The display on the PII is bright but the icons look "flat." I've looked at all the settings on each machine and they are identical (Win95OSR2.5, MS Plus!, C&T65555, etc.). I've tried about everything on the PII to duplicate the display quality of the MMX but to no avail.

Did the quality of LCD screens vary with each machine? Does the MMX have inherently better display properties? Is there some setting that I've overlooked? I'm happy with the PII screen. It's just that the MMX screen is the best I've ever seen on any laptop. Comments?

BTW - The MMX runs great (it isn’t moved much) but the PII has been the workhorse. The PII at one time or another has suffered from the screen flicker malady (but not to the degree of needing repair) and an intermittently faulty AC connection but overall it’s been a great machine.
