The holodeck was down. Both Chakotay and Samantha had been looking forward to doing something fun especially Flotter but it would look like they had to wait. Just great now the crew moral would get even lower. Chakotay did not like to tell Janeway of this unfortunate event because she seemed a little on edge. She took the news just aobut as well as a dog about to get a bath.
Tom Paris had just gotten off duty and was actually looking forward to the lunch Neelix made or rather replicated. He noticed Seven sitting in a of the room corner as usual and Tuvok sitting on the opposite corner both buried in padds. He had to chuckle to himself a little: they needed to get a life other then work. Tom's atention now went to the food. Just as he was going to bite into his wonderful lunch, the lights went out...

All over the ship the crew grabbed a phaser rifle and a light and the senior staff carefully mad their way to the bridge.
Captain Janeway looked at the dead panels on the walls and sighed, what else could go wrong today, she thought aloud and was promptly answered as the ship shook and panels exploded. The ship rocked as a large vessel landed on top of it and drilled a entry hole, into the roof of the bridge.
As the senior staff barricaded themselves into the briefing room they heard heavy breathing and a low growling sound, like a mix between a Klingon and Hirogen growl, as one of the creatures lunged at the briefing room door it started to buckle inwards and a small crack appeared. Tom being the most nosey one of the crew looked out only to see another eye looking in, examining the room, they creature who's eye was looking in suddenly gave an almighty scream like it had been stabbed in the back with a Batleth and fell to the ground...

All of a sudden, there were ten more howls and the door broke open. Ten creatures clambered in. They all had six bug like legs and there bodies were Vedian. Janeway fired her phase rifle at the nearest creature and it toppled to the floor. Another creature ran up to her and dropped dead as she fired another shot. Then, two more creatures poured into the room to replace the other two. Tom fired his phaser but the creature just absorbed it. They had bug-like legs, Vedian bodies and adapted like the borg!! How could anybody defeat such creatures!? The creature grew some sort of spikes out of his hand and embeded them into Tom's skin.

Tom fell to the ground and immediately, the creatures beamed out. Jane way looked around in amazement and then immediately looked at Tom. She pressed on her comm badge "Bridge to Sickbay, medical emergency."
Tom woke up to the usettling noise of the Doctor singing his own opera composition. "It's about time you woke up, you've been asleep for eighteen hours." He injected a hypospray into Tom's neck and then proceeded to fill him in on the part one and a half days. As soon as he had fallen over, the aliens left and power came back online. The only problem was the fact Tom had those spikes imbedded in his arm. They were injecting some sort of organism into Tom's blood. After about fifteen minutes of being in there, they just desintigrated.

The doctor had run some scans on what was left of the remenants of the organisms to find that they were not organic molecules and organelles but were in fact made of micro fibers and filaments of metal rather like the nanoprobes of the Borg. This information had been enough for Tuvok to make the brilliant conclusion that the whole attack had been set up just to inject some of these probes to obtain information. The questions were why go to so much trouble to kill two of their species to obtain 15 minutes worth of information and why Tom? Tuvok guessed they had been attacking the Captain as they seemed to head straight for her and had had to settle for Tom when it was clear they were not going to achieve this.
Tom was released from sick bay later that day after it was clear that this encounter had not affected his health or that was what the Doctor thought.
Tom had just enjoyed a get well lunch from Neliks with B'Ellana and was returning to his quarters. When he heard a sound right behind him.
Seven walked down the corridor towards the turbo lift, she walked straight past the spot where Tom had been standing seconds earlier. Head down in the padd she had just obtained from B'Ellana she hadn't noticed the dying flash of light as Tom was taken from the ship.
On the bridge Janeway was satisfied that there had been no sighting of any alien vessels for the last 7 hours.
