I am not saying Cardiff is a wonderful place with no problems, you will notice I said "people get on with it for the most part", I stand by my statement that Cardiff is more racially/culturally integrated than the West and the Valleys, something I notice nobody has tried to deny. I am glad to hear Swansea is doing something to rid itself of the BNP at your games, but tell me, why do they seek support among the Swansea crowd and not the Cardiff crowd?
I don't know that they haven't. Do you? As for this tolerance/integrated thing - the two are seperate things entirely. More integrated in the east? Quite possibly. More tolerant? Doubtful. While being sure it exists, I can't remember seeing or for that matter reading any reports of racially-motivated crimes in Swansea. As for the Valleys - christ knows - and I have no intention of finding out, tho I'm sure Jez would know ;-) (cont inside) -- SHB, 16:20:36 20/03/01 Tue
Agree with you on the Cockney bit. I live in Tower Hamlets which has a high Bengali population but there is no integration between bengalis/whites. Look at the schools as an example. The myth of cockneys getting on wiv everyone is a load of bolux -- Tickle my Top, 16:32:25 20/03/01 Tue
Integration implies tolerance. I'm not talking about ethnic presence within a community but ethnic integration, i.e. being PART of the community and not a persecuted minority, capiche? BTW, I know you , Jez, AJ etc are sensible chaps and deplore the BNP nobs, don't think I was trying to imply you personally are racist... -- CB, 16:35:16 20/03/01 Tue
Members of the ethnic minorities are VERY rare in the valleys I would say but where they exist, they are generally very well integrated ! I have a friend whose family are originally from the Seychelles yet he's as typical a Valleyboy as anyone ! Friends of mine from school in Aberdare were chummy with the guys that ran the curry-house in the high street. Generally, any intolerance usually stems from ignorance, never having met anybody of a different race !! (cont'd) -- Jez, 17:12:29 20/03/01 Tue
