I respect the right of people to protest, but there's a line wherein you do more harm than good to your cause. Protests that harm people who are not at fault only leads the protesters to being viewed as pests. Putting undo pressures on a city government that (In San Francisco's case) doesn't have much clout with the Bush administration is scattershot and wrongheaded.

I live in a fairly SF-ish city and we've had protests since long before the war begain. Thankfully the protesters have found ways to engage the residents in a positive way without becoming a nuisance.
