Subject: The Shuttle always was a shoddy, half-measure
In reply to: Sarah 's message, "Columbia was the oldest NASA shuttle in use" on 11:09:07 02/01/03 Sat

It was the easist design BUDGETARILY but is difficult to prepare and maintain. It uses 60's and 70's technology STILL, chocked full of toxics, and is extremely fragile.

Before Columbia launched, some ICE broke off something and did some "minor damage" to the left wing, knocking off some tiles. The Shuttle NEEDS ALL IT'S TILES, ESPECIALLY THE BOTTOM BLACK PAINTED ONES TO RE-ENTER SAFETLY! Apparantly the ground engineers were huffing the same toxic solvents that made them think the cracked o-rings o the Challenger's solid fuel boosters were "good to go" and decided everything would be alright.

I felt the same thing you guys did when Challenger blew up. I thought it was some terrorist that shot it down with a Stinger SAM. No, it's just, again, some pencil-pushing idiot who fell asleep on the job, so to speak.
