Like I said, I'm sympathetic to your concerns SM, I just feel it's important to remember that we are talking about a country that was split up. Mexicans have stronger ties to the area than most Europeans. (And I doubt the average Mexican got any money or say in the deal.) Check out some of Hunter S. Thompson's early writings on the sixties hispanic scene for perspective.
I'm not saying I condone a lot of the behaviour of illegals or Bush's proposal. (I agree that he's trying to build on gains in the latino community.) I support enforcing the law. It's just that not ever having been a poverty stricken Mexican I feel like I'm not in a very good position to sit in judgement of their motivations for crossing the border. It's a shitty situation for everyone and I can only hope that Mexico starts getting it's act together and creates a country worth staying in.
P.S. I think Cody was calling Augie a racist for using the term "Wetbacks".
