Date Posted: 18:00:10 06/17/02 Mon *she curries the buckshin stallion enthusiastically, then removes the remaninder of the dirt with the dandy brush and body brush. Then she puts the saddle pad on his back carefully, followed by the saddle and then the girth. the horse stands quietly through the whole procedure, then lowers his head to accept the bit. She tightens her helmet strap, brings the reins back over his head and leads him to the ring. finally the cast was off and she could ride again. Saddle walks up and takes the horse's head for her to mount. "Wow, he's bigger than Barnum and Bailey!" Maggie says. "Yeah, he is, but he's also much better trained and much more responsive" Saddle tells her. Maggie slides her leg back and asks the stallion to walk. he moves out willingly, his long strides covering the ground lightly. after a few laps, some circles and firgure 8's she asks for a trot. the buckskin moves out eagerly but responsively into a balanced trot. grinning, Maggie guides him through some serpintines and circles. then she slides her outside leg back and Desert springs into a light canter. Maggie balances and moves rythmically with bhis stride around the ring a few times, then slows him to a trot and changes direction. she allows him to walk for a minute, then moves him into a canter. a few seconds later, she hears the tires of a school bus and sees Hannah and Jessie running up. Desert's ears pay attention to their footsteps but he still responds perfectly to Maggie when she asks him to circle, then trot. "Your riding him already!" Hannah exclaims. "You look great on him" Jessie tells her twin honestly. soon Mikki appears, walking calmly down to the barn. "Whoa, who's that riding the mean stud?" Mikki teases. "Its me, Maggie" she giggles, kicking her feet out of the stirrups and sliding off his back. Hannah looks jealous as they all walk down to the barn, listening to Maggie tell all about her wonderful ride on Desert. she still couldn't ride Heaven, he was still lame. "Hey, why don't the rest of you help me bring the horses in while Maggie untacks. We're going to a birthday party in a little while. once the horses are all in their stalls Maggie will go take a shower and then we will leave. We will be bringing your horses so please wrap their legs for trailering while they eat" they all get to work. once all the horses are in and Desert's legs are wrapped, Maggie jogs up to the house and showers. then she pulls on a pair of shorts and a purple halter top. Then she grabs her chaps and helmet, puts the brace back on her arm and runs down the stairs, pulling a brush through her red hair and putting it up into pigtails. "You look good" Saddle says approvingly.
